While we have certainly made strides in the right direction, society today still undermines women, making them believe that they don’t have the potential for greatness – at least compared to men. Fortunately, influential figures like Dr. Suzanne Soliman empower women by showing them that they deserve a seat at the table. She’s an accomplished pharmacist who assists and inspires women in her profession to reach their goals and show the world what they got.
Whether it be in her education or career, Suzanne has always aimed for excellence. In 2004, she earned her PharmD doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy (UIC-COP). She then went to Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy for a residency in primary care, emphasized in education. Suzanne also completed a teaching fellowship at UIC College of Medicine.
After completing her residency in 2006, she worked as a medical science liaison (MSL) at the medical device company Abbott. She’s also served as a clinical pharmacist and independent pharmacy owner. Currently, Suzanne is working as a Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for the Accreditation Council for Medical Affairs (ACMA), a company that set the standard of excellence in the medical science liaison and medical affairs profession in the pharmaceutical industry by establishing the first ever Board Certification in Medical Affairs (BCMAS) for the field. The program is now in over 75+ countries, which has given Suzanne a global reach to have an influence worldwide in the field.
In addition to her educational and professional accomplishments, she’s also a motivational figure with hundreds of publications and presentations about women’s issues, parenting, and pharmacy. Suzanne has impacted people’s lives across 75 countries that work in the healthcare and life sciences industries.
She further boosted her reputation with appearances on numerous news outlets like ABC7NY, Crain’s Chicago Business, Daily Voice, New York Magazine, The New York Times, and Time Out Chicago. She’s also actively advocating for female pharmacists and sharing her knowledge on motherhood and health topics on Facebook,Instagram, and TikTok.
Suzanne aims to live a life that is her most authentic self, which just so happens to inspire others. However, with her responsibilities as a wife and a mother of five, maintaining balance with her work and personal life can be challenging. This was when she created the Pharmacist Moms Group (PhMG) for female pharmacists with the same struggles.
Within a month of creating the group, it already had more than a thousand members, and it only continued to grow from there. Currently, PhMG has more than 35,000 professionals in it, and it’s hailed as one of the largest organizations for female pharmacists in the United States. Founding the group widened Suzanne’s knowledge about the community’s issues in work and society in general.
Sadly, it’s not even an issue of skills and competence, but gender bias. Even though two out of every three practicing pharmacists in the US are female, the percentage of leadership positions owned by women only reaches 25%. Due to this inequity, Suzanne focused her efforts on collaborating with numerous health organizations to include more women, as they are just as capable in the industry as men.
