Kathy Hochul has officially taken over as governor of New York, being sworn in at 10 a.m., Tuesday.
Hochul became the first female governor in New York’s history and is now the ninth woman serving as governor in the U.S.
“I’m looking forward to a fresh, collaborative approach,” Hochul said after being sworn into office. “It’s how I’ve always conducted myself, it’ll be nothing new for me, but it’s something I’m planning on introducing to the state capitol.”
The state of New York watched Andrew Cuomo step down on August 10 after harassment allegations and investigation findings from the attorney general led the former governor to resign.
After the attorney general released its 165-page investigation results, Cuomo denied any wrongdoing and said some of the actions he was accused of were his attempts at “being nice” to the accusers.
With Cuomo announcing his resignation, Hochul said that she agreed with his decision, calling it the “right thing to do and in the best interest of New Yorkers.”
Hochul has said she intends to run for a full term in 2022.
