Don’t you feel your mouth watering when you see exquisite food photos on Instagram? It’s something Mohammad Jasem Alwazzan specializes in. And not just food photos. Mr. Alwazzan is an expert in project and travel photography as well. He started his photography career in 1996 and never had to look back because of the widespread success. We are thankful that he has made some time to tell us how his personal life helped him become such a famous photographer.
Q: Thank you for being with us today. We know that you started photography in 1996. But did you get any formal training for it?
A: Thank you for covering my story. Well, I majored in Computer Science, and my minor was in Digital Art. That fueled me into my current profession in the Ministry of Information and then into freelance photography. I did get formal training while studying digital art. While finishing my higher education in SDSU, I completed an introductory photography course, an Adobe Premiere course, an after-effect course, Autodesk 3D Max course, beginner, intermediate, and advance Photoshop courses, montage broadcast course for Kuwait TV studio, and light science in a production course. I not only know about professional photography but also movie-making and broadcasting interviews.
Q: Did your childhood influence you into this career?
A: I was always passionate about what I did. As a teenager, I played basketball professionally. Later, I switched to water and automobile sports, such as motocross races, cars, and jet-ski. I think it’s my innate focus on whatever I do that I carried from my childhood into my professional career.
I also believe in leading from the front. It was a dream come a right moment for me when I got elected as the SDSU President of International Students. I was elected to this post for three consecutive years. This ability to lead people gave me the confidence to build a photography community in Kuwait. I coordinated photo-walks with various Instagramers to promote the tourism of my country.
Q: That’s a commendable job. Mr. Alwazzan, please tell our readers the paths you took to get to where you are today.
A: For me, exploring new places helped me learn a lot about photography. And I would also like to thank MOI for giving me enough opportunities to travel. It allowed me to capture innumerable moments. I covered events that I never imagined would get a chance to enter. It was this exposure that made me who I am today.
Q: How do you think your life changed after you became such a famous photographer?
A: MOI employees have a very routine life. You go to work, finish your assignments, come home, sleep, and repeat the same thing day after day. As a professional photographer, life is different. The love and appreciation I get from my followers is something I will cherish forever. I’m still that organized and focused person I was in my childhood with the zeal to lead a team. The only difference is photography keeps me busy almost throughout the year. And I love every bit of it.
It was a pleasure talking to you, Mr. Alwazzan. We wish you all the very best for your future projects, and we want you to continue to mesmerize us with your pictures.
