How Music Producer Calvin Ngo Went From Zero to Musical Force

The start of every journey is a single step, and for renowned music producer Calvin Ngo, this was a step he took almost six years ago. Calvin Ngo, popularly known by his artistic name, NGO, developed a passion for music at a young age. He loved and enjoyed listening to different genres of music, which led him to learn more about music production.

According to NGO, he always wanted to know how songs made their way from the studio to the radio. To quench his thirst, he began digging into the production process and started learning about the different techniques used to create and manipulate sounds.

At the time, NGO pursued music production as a hobby while also attending high school. Between after school sports and the workload from his classes, he had no time to take formal music production classes but he took it upon himself to learn through YouTube videos and try to recreate songs that he liked in FL Studio.

“It was a frustrating trial and error process, and most of the time, I wasn’t sure whether what I was doing was the right thing. But I did not give up. I continued practicing, and after months of hard work, my productions started to seem more well-rounded,” says NGO.

This enabled NGO to shape his own sounds. However, the challenges were far from over. NGO didn’t know anyone in the music scene, and with no support or money to promote his work, it was tough to break into the scene. He explains that it took him several months before he got his big break.

NGO shot into the limelight when he released his future bass-inspired dance-pop remix of “Too Good” by Drake and Rihanna. His undeniable talent, skills, and unique sound helped him establish and cement his place in the music industry with the “Too Good” remix amassing over 15 million streams. Since then, NGO has not looked back, and he has released hit after hit.

NGO is the creative behind several viral remixes, including “All We Know” by The Chainsmokers, which has gained 20M+ streams and earned NGO support from The Chainsmokers themselves, Trap Nation, and countless other artists/influencers. NGO has also released “Levitate”, Hear From Me”, and “Somebody”, which are original projects signed to reputable record labels that have attracted much attention from the public.

NGO has over 75 million streams and has been interviewed and featured on several online publications and media networks, making an appearance on the iconic BBC Radio 1 twice. He also launched his own record label, BLNDR, in 2020.

From a struggling young dreamer to one of the most sought-after music producers in the US, NGO is on his way to the top. He is a musical force who is not only dropping great tunes for his growing fan base but is also redefining the music scene. He is introducing a new vibe to the music industry that is uniquely his own, one that is not defined by any particular genres.

NGO says his goal is to create more timeless music as he builds an online family of music lovers. Through BLNDR (Blender), NGO provides upcoming artists with a chance to showcase their talents. Whether it be support in one of his highly influential curated playlists on Spotify or signing the tracks to the BLNDR record label, NGO envisions BLNDR as the launchpad for talented artists, regardless of their size.
