Though there are millions of content creators across the world, there are a few exceptions that stand out from the crowd. Authenticity, uniqueness, and creativity are some of the top traits that can help place your content ahead of the rest. Trailblazing YouTuber SmokeScreen, also known as Chris M. Christian, is an exceptionally creative artist making his mark in the space.
Chris is an innately gifted content creator, influencer, author, and entertainer. The passionate creator shares vast experience in the content creation space, having started from scratch to build one of the fast-rising content creator brands.
Aside from his informative and educative content, SmokeScreen is notable for his role at the Boston University Film department where he worked in conjunction with HBO on their Game of Thrones virtual season 8. A master of his craft, SmokeScreen produced and enhanced edits of the production on his YouTube channel, with episode 1 amassing close to 3 million views.
SmokeScreen is also credited for being the first independent influencers creating the first YouTube post-show live streams, which significantly outpaced the official HBO version with around 8k live viewers which also led him to be able to raise money for St. Jude Children’s hospital in live charity streams. He is also the founder and co-host of The SmokeScreen Podcast, a popular show where he has interviewed some of the Game Of Thrones cast, alongside other notable personalities in the entertainment scene. His influence spreads to various other platforms. SmokeScreen was also invited as a public speaker/panelist at fan conventions, notably Con of Thrones, from 2017-2020.
Given his many achievements, Chris wants others to understand that growing a successful brand in the content space is not easy. Though he discovered his passion for the industry at a young age, Chris had to take the traditional path with everyone expecting him to end in a 9-5 white-collar job. Years later, he would get the opportunity to join a film school, but he could not afford the tuition. But no matter how challenging the journey became, Chris never gave up. He kept his focus, learning while also honing his skills.
SmokeScreen’s hard work and dedication saw him land an opportunity in the computer tech world; an industry that brought him closer to his passion.
“Eventually, I landed in computer technology as a career choice, but that creative side was always there yearning to break through. After starting YouTube as a side hobby, I left a lucrative position in the IT industry (Microsoft) to become a content creator and start a business/community centering around entertainment media,” SmokeScreen explains.
The goal was to develop a “digital water cooler” where people from different backgrounds could interact and debate around the franchises they loved. According to SmokeScreen, he has always referred to it as a virtual campfire because the impression he wanted to give was a group of friends enjoying a nice discussion around a campfire.
Over the years, SmokeScreen has grown its brand, digging into the lore, and expanding its influence. He has become not only a YouTube sensation but also a top author with his debut fantasy novel, The Crimson Gods. His goal is to continue covering pop-culture while also writing more fantasy books. With a creative mindset, SmokeScreen is also looking to venture into the non-fiction world to write a book on the dark side of social media and its impact on mental health.
