Painter Joan Brown to be Displayed at SF MOMA

Joan Brown was an American figurative painter who was instrumental in the emergence of the Bay Area Figurative Movement. She was born in 1938 in San Francisco and was heavily influenced by the local environment and culture, often featuring objects of local importance in her artwork. Brown used bright colors and exaggerated movement to create powerful, complex works that explored the nature of humanity, particularly in her later years. Her work often focused on themes of identity and the female experience, and she was an advocate for feminist and civil rights causes. Brown’s art was a reflection of her life, as she strived to make it both meaningful and beautiful. Her works have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums around the world and are highly sought after by collectors and art lovers alike.

Brown’s art is currently on display at SFMOMA. Read more about her work and the exhibit on our sister site, the Marina Times, here.
